NASSAU, The Bahamas — The Gaming Board for The Bahamas, in collaboration with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), hosted its Annual Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and Counter Proliferation Financing (CPF) Training today.

Training was facilitated by Joann Creary, Legal Counsel at the Financial Intelligence Unit, and featured two sessions, for Licensees and all Gaming Board employees. This year’s theme, “Understanding Financial Threats: Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and Proliferation Risks,” underscored the critical role of stakeholder preparedness in advancing national compliance objectives.

Creary highlighted the importance of proactive engagement in combating financial crime. She noted that, “For The Bahamas to demonstrate its readiness on the global stage, there must be a deliberate focus on capacity-building at every level. Empowering regulators and ensuring licensees are equipped to identify and report suspicious transactions are fundamental steps in fostering a culture of compliance.” She commended the Gaming Board for hosting this training for the industry.

Monica Stuart, General Counsel at the Gaming Board, reiterated the importance of ongoing training. “It is essential that our employees remain technically proficient and accountable in their roles,” she said. “Licensee engagement is equally important, and we are encouraged by the level of participation. The insights shared today are intended to be applied throughout this jurisdiction across the gaming industry.”

The Bahamas, a member of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF), will undergo its Fifth Round Mutual Evaluation in 2026 under the global standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Today’s training forms part of a national effort to ensure regulatory and sector-wide readiness ahead of this critical assessment.

Secretary of the Gaming Board, Terah L. Rahming, emphasized the broader objective. “This annual training supports our continued work to enhance transparency, strengthen compliance, and promote shared responsibility across the gaming sector. It is essential that we remain aligned as we prepare for the next round of evaluations.”

This initiative reflects The Bahamas’ commitment to maintaining a robust and effective AML/CFT/CPF framework, supported by cross-agency collaboration and continuous professional development.
